Director of Content Strategy

The Director of Content Strategy will serve as lead on all publishing slate planning which includes identifying ideal publishing on-sale dates while balancing revenue expectations. This position will act as the central touchpoint between the Finance, Sales, Marketing, Talent Affairs, Operations and Editorial departments in order to meet the Company’s objectives for growth and profitability with all product releases. This position will also be responsible for assessing the viability and efficacy of licensor and IP relationships, leading product development and management, and working alongside marketing and sales teams on product market research. This role will report to the VP, Sales & Marketing.

Essential Functions:

  • Balance products in all categories in the publishing schedule, alongside the Managing Editor and Editor-in-Chief, in order to maximize sales and hit revenue goals all while satisfying the creative needs of both the editorial group and the creators
  • Work with the Managing Editor to create and implement publishing plans for all brands, licensors, and properties across IDW Publishing’s title list 
  • In concert with the Sales & Marketing teams, oversee pricing analysis and implement product price changes in order to maximize market penetration, profitability and revenue
  • Ideate and develop new SKU types with the Editorial, Finance, Sales and Marketing teams 
  • Oversee licensor/IP renewal strategy, including spearheading request for proposal (RFP) decks, leading sales and strategy analysis and tracking potential future editorial plans, all with input from Business Affairs, Sales, Marketing, Editorial, and the Publisher
  • Leading viability analysis of new licensor additions, including spearheading RFP decks, leading sales & strategy analysis and tracking potential future editorial plans
  • Track licensor minimum guarantee fulfillment status, and work with Finance and Editorial if goals are not being met 
  • Oversee and manage creation and upload of title forms to distributors
  • Lead centralized and reconciled span slate planning for both series periodicals and books, ensuring balanced cadence between periodical releases and collection releases 
  • Lead product management process, including determining variant covers, production quality and pricing for all products across the publishing schedule 
  • Run point on the product approvals process, moving prospective titles through the workflow and alerting stakeholders to next steps
  • Advise on market viability on all publishing initiatives, including imprint launches, product approvals, and cover designs
  • Conduct research and analysis on marketplace trends and communicate amongst internal stakeholders
  • Other responsibilities as required 


  • College degree required
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in publishing scheduling, sales, marketing or editorial
  • Minimum of 2 years of management experience
  • Experience and interest in comics and graphic novels required
  • Advanced Word and Excel skills
  • Intermediate Powerpoint/Keynote skills
  • Experience working in the Mac environment
  • Experience working with Google suite
