Star Trek: The Next Generation Continues in New Trade Paperback
IDW Publishing brings back the original Next Generation cast with six all-new adventures
San Diego, CA (August 24, 2007)—Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise™ NCC-1701-D return with all-new journeys that span The Next Generation timeline. The trade paperback (TPB), Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Space Between, includes six stand-alone adventures—each of which is set in a different season of the show.
“This series is very true to the spirit of discovery and adventure that was a major component of the TV series,” says Chris Ryall, publisher and editor-in-chief for IDW Publishing. “We didn’t want to just fall back on the same villains and same story lines.”
Story lines include a stranded trio—Klingon Colonel Worf, Geordi La Forge, and Ro Laren—who fight for their lives against a colony of nocturnal aliens on an unexplored moon, and the discovery by Captain Jean-Luc Picard that scientific information from the Enterprise's mission logs has been used to develop deadly weapons systems.
While each issue acts as its own “episode,” there is a shared theme that weaves through all six stories and is tied together in the final escapade. “We effectively have a six-part season that nevertheless has a bigger story to tell,” says Ryall. "By the time you get to the end, you'll see how they all link together and culminate in a really satisfying conclusion.”
The cast changes slightly in each story to correspond with the season’s cast of characters; and, in each issue, one character is spotlighted. “Each cast member gets their moment in the sun,” says Ryall.
At the helm of these explosive stories are writer David Tischman and artist Casey Maloney, who is also working on one of rock-legend Gene Simmons’s new comic books, Zipper.
Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Space Between, a 144-page TPB, hits comic book stores and book stores on September 12, 2007.
