Thirteen Years and Stronger Than Ever!
IDW Publishing rings in its teen years with a string ofsuccesses
San Diego, CA(May 16, 2012) – Buoyed by extraordinary fan response, explosive material, and a dedicated retail market, IDW is spendinga lot of year thirteen making repeated trips to the printer!
Going back to press on multiple books, including Popeye#1, Road Rage #1 and #2, TRANSFORMERS: Robots inDisguise #1, TRANSFORMERS: More Than Meets the Eye#1, and multiple printings of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles#1-5, to name a few, has given IDW a lot of work to do and a lot tothink about. That’s to say nothing of the fact that this weekbrought sell-outs of Frankenstein Alive, Alive! #1 andTRIO #1!
“In all my years in the Direct Market, I’m not sureI’ve ever seen things blow up quite like this,” saidPublisher and CEO Ted Adams. “We’vebeen overprinting aggressively, and still not meeting demand. Theinitial orders we’re seeing are huge, and the increaseswe’re seeing at Final Order Cut-off aresubstantial.”
It should also be clear to fans and retailers alike that this waveof comics awesomeness has far from crested. Extremely strong salesof Mars Attacks, KISS, Godzilla, and thehotly-anticipated Star Trek: The Next Generation andDoctor Who crossover, among others, are just a handful ofindicators screaming that IDW does not plan to stop putting outsome of the industry’s most popular and prosperoustitles.

San Diego, CA(May 8, 2012) – IDW Publishing is pleased to announce thelaunch of ARCHIE’S SUNDAY FINEST, availablein comic book stores this Wednesday. This hardcover collectionfeatures full-color Archie Sunday strips, presentingclassic Archie themes and characters by cartoonist BobMontana.
“We are thrilled to continue the Eisner award-winning serieswith the all new Archie’s Sunday Finest,” saidGreg Goldstein, IDW President and COO. “Thisoversize volume will allow fans to see Montana’s brilliancefor themselves with these never before reprinted strips.”
Archie Andrews and the gang are such universal characters that onemay not even think of them as having been created by anyone inparticular, much less having been drawn from life. But of course, they were. Originally springing from the imagination of ArchieComics co-founder John L. Goldwater, and fleshedout by the supremely-talented Montana, Archie andhis friends – Jughead, Betty and Veronica, and Reggie remainpop culture icons to this day.
In these rarely seen Sunday newspaper comics from the late 1940sand early 1950s—including the very first Archiestrips—Montana draws on the facts, fantasy, feelings, and fun of his own high school days in Haverhill,Massachusetts to build upon the legendary characters created byGoldwater.
