Harvey Awards LogoPeer-nominated awards recognize IDW creators and books

Yesterday, the 2009 Harvey Award nominees were released, and IDW was prominent in the ranks. Conceived to "recognize outstanding work in comics and sequential art," the Awards are open to all creative professionals, who are invited to nominate their peers.

Our fellow creators have honored IDW with seven nominations, including two for Scorchy Smith and the Art of Noel Sickles and for The Dreamer, plus three Best Domestic Reprint nominations.  Full list after the jump.

Nominated for Best Domestic Reprint and Best Biographical, Historical or Journalistic Presentation, Scorchy Smith is a comprehensive, 352-page volume that collects, for the first time, every Scorchy Smith strip, the groundbreaking 1930s aviation adventure series by Noel Sickles. Edited and designed by Dean Mullaney, Scorchy Smith also features extensive DVD-style extras examining Sickles's life and the decades-long influence of his work, while showcasing the breadth of his career as one of America's foremost magazine illustrators.

All-around talent Lora Innes's The Dreamer, about a girl who finds adventure and more in her vivid dreams, was nominated for both Best New Series and Best New Talent, a great pairing for Innes.

Thom Zahler was nominated for Best Cartoonist for his work in Love and Capes, a real-life love story with a superhero twist.

IDW's tenth-anniversary edition of Astounding Space Thrills was honored with a Best Domestic Reprint nomination. The book features the first-ever reprint of rare early issues, plus a gallery of amazing art from by many legendary artists.

Celebrating the centennial of cartoonist Milton Caniff's birth, IDW released the six-book series, Terry and the Pirates, collecting the entirety of Caniff's groundbreaking newspaper adventure strip, which was also nominated for Best Domestic Reprint.

IDW would like to congratulate all the nominees! The winners will be announced at the Harvey Award dinner during Baltimore Comic Con on Saturday, October 10, 2009. The complete list of nominees is here.
