Inner Monologue

LoreleiMy name is Lorelei Bunjes, I'm the Director of Digital Services here at IDW, and I have a secret: the Siege Perilous is in my office. It's in the corner behind an industrial rack of old computers. Honestly, it's not very impressive looking and I have to stay on guard to prevent IDW staff from accidently sitting on it. I'm not certain as to how it got there, but there it is.

For a long time I didn't know what to do with it either until one day I absentmindedly dropped a stack of comics on top of it. Upon contact, they vaporized into a startlingly cloud of brimstone but at that exact moment psarc files appeared on my desktop and that's when I knew what I was to do with the ancient device, make digital comics for the Sony PSP!

Now, please don't think that it's simple or safe, the Siege Perilous is fatal to anyone not worthy of it and as such I have to toss comics onto it from across the room. Sometimes I miss, leaving half burnt comics and incomplete digital files all over the place and I'm forced to send interns in dangerously close to clean up the mess. It's especially hazardous when adding audio tracks of the creators to the digital comics as we must strap fellows like Ben Templesmith and Joe Hill into a harness and dangle them just above the Siege Perilous allowing their brimstone induced glossolalia to be transfigured to an audio commentary. The risk that one of the interns holding the ropes will lose their grip and the creator plummets to their death is fairly significant, thus I'm beyond impressed that these guys are willing to do this to give fans that extra bit of content.

So next time you're reading a comic on the PSP or listening to a creator commentary think of the danger the creators place themselves in and the handful of IDW interns lost to the Siege Perilous over the past year and know that we wouldn't make digital comics any other way.
