IDW Announces Release for Free Comic Book Day

IDW Publishing has announced its contribution to Free Comic Book Day-an IDW sampler containing excerpts from 24, CSI, The Shield, and 30 Days of Night.

"The purpose of Free Comic Book Day is to get new readers into the comic book stores," IDW VP of Marketing Beau Smith said. "It's the job of the publisher and the retailer to keep them coming back. IDW Publishing plans to do their part in this endeavor by issuing a very appealing product on Free Comic Book Day."

CSI is the #1 dramatic series on broadcast TV, with more than 25 million weekly viewers. The Shield has set viewership records for basic cable programming.  24, IDW's newest television license, has won both critical acclaim and high ratings for its clever and suspenseful action. All three shows are multiple award winners.  30 Days of Night has been a huge hit for IDW, and has received significant attention from other media outside comics.

"Our feeling was that since the point of Free Comic Book Day is to introduce the fun and excitement of comics to non-traditional comic book readers," Editor-in-Chief Jeff Mariotte said, "what better way than with properties that are already well-known to most Americans? We're especially excited about 24, which will be seen on Free Comic Book Day for the first time, a couple of weeks before our first one-shot is released.  This will be most people's first look at the incredible work our creative team has done here."

The IDW Free Comic Book Day offering is a full-color, 32-page comic book that comes with four different covers, one from each property contained within.
