Chris Ryall is the Chief Creative Officer of IDW Publishing. He oversees IDW Publishing’s comic-book and graphic-novel publishing, helping acquire major licenses such as The Transformers, Star Trek, Judge Dredd, and many other brands, as well as helping determine the creative approach and creative teams on IDW’s wide array of comic books.
Since he joined the company in June 2004, IDW has gained market share every year, become a Premiere Publisher and grown to become the fourth-largest comic-book publisher in America. In addition to the many licensed projects IDW now publishes, Ryall also shepherded the acclaimed, Eisner Award-winning series Locke & Key from conception to its completion, and developed Infestation, IDW’s first-ever multi-license crossover event. He has ranked on Bleeding Cool magazine’s list of the Top 100 Most Powerful People in Comics since the list began in 2012. In 2014, Ryall won the UK Stan Lee’s True Believer Award for Best Editor.
Additionally, Ryall is an Eagle- and Eisner Award-nominated comic book writer, and the co-creator of Groom Lake, The Hollows, The Colonized, Onyx, and Zombies vs Robots, which was optioned in 2010 by Sony Pictures producer Michael Bay and remains on their active development slate as the film Inherit the Earth.
He has also co-written a prose book about comics, Comic Books 101. Since 2016, Ryall has overseen and co-written the revival of the fan-favorite Hasbro property, Rom.
