Ashley Wood

IDW is proud to be the home of acclaimed painter/designer Ashley Wood! Wood has been with IDW for our entire history-the first book IDW ever published was Uno Fanta, kicking off a long line of art books from the Spectrum Award-winning artist.

Over the past 10 years, Wood has created dozens of books for IDW, from his Fanta series to Swallow to the Sparrow series of art books from other renowned artists. Wood's art adorned the covers to the original 30 Days of Night series, and since then, he has illustrated dozens of issues of Metal Gear Solid, spearheaded the horror magazine throwback Doomed, which garnered both Wood and writer Chris Ryall an Eisner Award nomination. Wood also created Zombies vs Robots with Ryall, and produced numerous series of his own, including Popbot, Lore, DuoStar Racers and World War Robot.

Wood's highly stylized works, such as the glamorous art of Grande Finale, hints at elements of Expressionism. Wood's books tend to feature an array of both painted and sketched images. In addition to the many individual books and comics, the Australian-based artist frequently designs variant covers for many of IDW's licensed series.

On top of his art and design work, Wood has become renowned for his statues and toys based on his artwork. In 2009, he will be attending San Diego Comic-Con and debuting an exclusive World War Robot "Security Bramble" figure. This 8-inch tall, $50 figure features special paint ops that commemorate IDW's tenth anniversary.
